Telephonic Interpreter

TELELANGUAGE is looking for bi-lingual professionals to provide interpretation over-the-phone. This is a work-from-home opportunity where you can choose your own hours and work for as much or as little as you want.

To qualify to work as a Telephonic Interpreter, you must be able to pass an English proficiency and target language proficiency test.


  • Professional experience in their field of expertise (e.g., medical interpreters include medical school graduates, registered nurses and medical assistants)
  • General knowledge and familiarity with both cultures
  • Must have a landline with no call waiting features or voicemail. Skype, VoIP, Vonage, Magic Jack or cell phones are not allowed.
  • Follow Interpreter Code of Ethics
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both languages
  • Render accurate interpretation in English and the target language
  • Act as a conduit, clarifier and cultural broker when needed
  • Excellent customer service skills

Skills and Competencies
Phone Interpreters shall have the following competencies:
Interpreting Competence
Interpreting competence comprises the ability to interpret a message from one language to the other in the applicable mode. It includes the ability to assess and comprehend the original message and render it in the target language without omissions, additions or distortions. It also includes the knowledge/awareness of the interpreter’s own role in the interpreting encounter.
Interpreting skills

The interpreter shall:
• Have active listening skills and strive to improve them through self-training.
• Have good memory retention skills.
• Be able to take notes during the interpretation assignment to ensure accuracy of the information given.
• Be able to mentally transpose and verbalize into the target language.
